My name is Shadi Jaqmour. I am a digital nomad of Syrian origin and a university student in the department of industrial engineering.
I started specializing in the field of e-commerce management to be my source of income. As an industrial engineering student, management and leadership are my passion. In addition, I delve into other fields such as data science and analysis.
My Journey to Digital Nomadism
I was born in the city of Ariha in the Idlib governorate in Syria in 1999 and grew up in a family that loved science and learning. I continued my education until I entered the high school for computer technologies. I had a passion for programming languages and all computer-related sciences.
Unfortunately, due to the war in Syria, I was injured in the head by shrapnel from a shell that fell behind me. It did not kill me, but it ignited the spark of migration. Because of this, roughly a month later, my family and I migrated to Istanbul, where we settled in 2015. This became the starting point of my digital nomadic journey.
First Stop: Life’s Circumstances and Challenges
The devastating war robbed us of our rosy dreams. The harsh conditions that the war left behind, and its scars, which were carved on the body before the soul, mixed with the taste of the new place from migration and estrangement.
Adversity ignites the spark; determination fuels the journey.
These circumstances brought about consecutive challenges in terms of language, money, education, and stability, which pushed me to work and search diligently for a chance to overcome all these obstacles.
First Step Towards Digital Work
During these tough times, and after overcoming many problems such as learning the language of the country, completing my studies, and entering the university, I decided to venture into the world of e-commerce.
My real starting point was Coursera, a platform famous for its training courses. However, I didn’t just settle for its courses. I realized that to get the most benefit, one needs to have good skills first and secondly, to follow experts and learn from them.
Setting Out and New Challenges
After several months on this path, I gained good knowledge that allowed me to move forward and got to know many experienced friends with previous expertise. We decided together to start a new project in e-commerce. From there, my journey in managing e-commerce stores began, facing new challenges in the path of our trade, leading the team towards success, and being a digital nomad. 🙂
